Before you apply
- The threshold is tiered: $24,000/year for tech professions, but $60,000/year for non-tech (founders, CEOs, accountants, lawyers, writers).
- The pass does NOT cover Sabah or Sarawak. You enter Borneo as a tourist and cannot work there on it.
- ⚠️ Malaysia's exemption on foreign-source income expires on 31 December 2026. It is not permanently tax-free.
- Most Malaysian banks refuse this pass, which makes renting harder. MDEC's own FAQ concedes it.
